YouTube to Invest Rs 850 Crore in India, Has Paid Rs 21,000 Crore to Indian Creators

Mumbai, 2nd May 2025: YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced on Thursday that the platform has paid ₹21,000 crore to Indian creators and artists over the last three years, highlighting the growing influence of Indian content on the global stage.

Speaking at the World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mohan revealed that YouTube plans to invest ₹850 crore in India over the next two years. The investment aims to further support Indian creators, artists, and media companies.

Praising the creativity and storytelling abilities of Indian content makers, Mohan noted that content from India was watched for over 45 billion hours globally in the past year. “The skill of Indians in conveying history, culture, and interests to audiences around the world is truly commendable,” he said.

Mohan also shared that 15,000 Indian YouTube channels now have over one million subscribers. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for inspiring digital creativity in the country and pointed out that Modi’s personal YouTube channel has 25 million subscribers more than any other head of government globally.

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, also speaking at the summit, expressed confidence that India’s media and entertainment industry would cross the $100 billion mark within the next decade. He emphasized the sector’s potential to generate millions of jobs, boost entrepreneurship, and drive growth in related industries.

Ambani also referenced Prime Minister Modi’s presence at the event, calling it a strong message in support of peace, justice, and resilience, especially in light of recent incidents like the Pahalgam attack.

The summit marked a major moment for India’s digital and entertainment ecosystem, with global players signaling long-term commitment to the country’s creative economy.
