Mumbai, 30 March, 2016: It was great to see designers create something trendy and new especially when their designs spare a thought for the environment too. Ethically fashionable, Kriti Tula took this to another level with her label ‘Doodlage’, which created chic outfits using industrial waste inspired by ‘The Backpacker’. ‘Travel Tails’ her travel-inspired collection at Stage One during Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 too showcased luxe garments made out of industry waste.

Inspired by the life of a globetrotter, the designs had an innate folksy element in them. Clean, simple silhouettes with mild traces of layering glided down the ramp. The comfort element of the garments resonated in the collection. The use of surface treatments and textures blended beautifully with the otherwise simple outfits.

A vertical pinstriped skirt, teamed with a bralet and jacket, reflected backpacker tribe sensibilities. It will definitely put theMonday blues to rest. A multicoloured jumpsuit, crafted beautifully out of patchwork fabric, was the highlight of the collection.

Each garment seemed to tell a story – of the journeys they have embarked upon, its souvenirs, accessories, etc. Kriti Tula’s collection ‘Travel Tails’ for her label ‘Doodlage’ unveiled a stunning set of outfits, which will surely lure the independent, free-spirited individuals.

KANIKA GOYAL BROUGHT YOUTHFUL STYLE ELEMENTS TO CENTRE STAGE AT STAGE ONE DURING LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2016

Social media is no longer just a medium to interact and keep in touch with people. It has apparently managed to fly its way into the minds of fashion designers, to be used in their creations. Ace designer Kanika Goyal’s “The Kids Are Alright” a men’s and women’s collection at Stage One during Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 was an epitome of this amalgamation of the digital age and fashion.

The models strutted down the ramp wearing the label’s signature boxy tops and layered foiled outerwear. The clever use of PVC to create contrast with printed jerseys made for an arresting impact. The designer also dished out the patented embellished slangs and erratic print explosions with a dash of innovativeness.

The upbeat atmosphere of the show set the tone for the collection. The silhouettes consisted of cropped tops teamed with skirts, Capri pants, hooded jackets and shorts. A bright, tangerine jacket with stone embellishments was really eye-catching along with a sleeveless floor length coat.

The colour palette, which initially began with soothing tones such as powder blue, beige and grey, soon metamorphosed into electric blue, flaming orange, red and Marsala. Combined with quality craftsmanship and refined tailoring; the collection made an impactful statement on the ramp.

“The Kids are Alright” by Kanika Goyal will definitely be applauded by today’s youth, who like to break free from society’s paradigm, with a definite élan.
