30% Reduction In Accidents, 47% Reduction In Injuries On Mumbai-Pune Expressway In 3 Months

Pune, 22nd March 2023: Maharashtra State Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar has instructed transport offices at the Highway Police, IRB, Mumbai, Panvel, Pune, and Pimpri-Chinchwad to conduct 24-hour inspections to control accidents on the old highway, including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The 12 teams have been active for the last three months and have seen a 30% reduction in accidents and a 47% reduction in injuries. During the period from 1st December to 28th February, the teams have taken action against 23,675 vehicles.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has seen numerous accidents, leading to the loss of many lives, including actors and political leaders.

Investigations have revealed that most of the accidents occur due to reckless driving and not following traffic rules. To curb such behavior, 12 squads and 30 officers are working around the clock to crack down on reckless drivers.

Accidents In January And February 2022 And 2023:

Fatal Accidents: 21 in 2022 and 14 in 2023

Serious Accidents: 16 in 2022 and 13 in 2023

Minor Accidents: Seven in 2022 and three in 2023

Total: 41 in 2022 and 30 in 2023

Fatal Accident Deaths: 31 in 2022 and 14 in 2023

Injuries In Serious accidents: 41 in 2022 and 12 in 2023

Injuries In Minor Accidents: Nine in 2022 and seven in 2023

Total: 81 in 2022 and 43 in 2023

December 2022:

Speed Limit Violation- 1,355, No Seatbelt- 1,640, Wrong Side Parking- 738

January 2023:

Speed Limit Violation- 1,759, No Seatbelt- 1,541, Wrong Side Parking – 601

February 2023:

Speed Limit Violation- 1,010, No Seatbelt- 1,005, Wrong Side Parking- 339
