69 Out Of Top 100 Ranked Holders Of JEE Advanced Choose IIT Bombay

Mumbai, 23rd September 2022: IIT Bombay has once again become the first choice of JEE Advanced toppers. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSA) released the first seat allotment list on Friday. According to the details shared by this year’s admission authority IIT Bombay, 69 out of the top 100 rank holders of JEE Advanced and 173 out of the top 500 rank holders have opted for the popular course at IIT Bombay.

This year there are 16,598 seats in 23 IITs in the country, more than last year. In 2021, there were 16,238 seats. While the old IIT institutes have the same number of seats as last year, new seats have been included in the new IIT institutes IIT Mandi, IIT Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Patna, Pallakad, Dharwad and others.

According to the information shared by JEE Office, 28 students opted for IIT Delhi while three opted for IIT Madras among the top 100 rankers of JEE Advanced. The highest number of 173 students was allotted seats in IIT Bombay. This was followed by 127 in IIT Delhi, 48 each in IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, 44 in IIT Kharagpur and 33 in IIT Roorkee.

Apart from IIT institutes, the National Institute of Technology (NIT), IIIT (IIIT) and other government-aided technical institutions (GFTI), a total of 54,477 seats were available in all these institutes this year.

Suryanarayan Dulla, Chairman, JEE Advanced 2022 Event, said, “A total of 2,14,067 students registered for the seat allotment process through JoSAA this year. Of these, 1,95,924 candidates (Male: 1,50,551 and Female: 45,370, Third Gender: 3) filled their choices for the seats.

This year JoSAA will conduct six rounds of seat allotment so that no seat remains vacant in IITs and other government institutions. This is the fifth year that all institutions have set aside additional seats for girl students.”

Admission to IITs in the country is done based on performance in the JEE Advanced exam. This year 1.55 lakh students registered for it, out of which 40,712 students were found eligible for admission through JoSAA. This year the cutoff for General has come down to 15.28 per cent.

Last year it was 17.5 per cent. This decrease was also observed in the cut-offs of other categories.
