8 Days of Hope: Rajasthan’s Race Against Time to Rescue Chetna from Borewell

Kotputli, 30th December 2024: The rescue efforts for 3-year-old Chetna, who has been stuck in a borewell for over a week, have turned into a test of endurance, determination, and hope. The operation, which is going on in Kiratpura village in Kotputli-Behror district, entered its eighth day on Monday as rescue teams battled rocky terrain and plunging temperatures to bring the little girl to safety.
Battle Against Nature
Chetna’s plight began on December 23 when she accidentally fell into a narrow borewell while playing in her father’s field. Rescuers have been facing a tough challenge, as they have not been able to pass the tunnel path because of a 1.5-foot-wide rock. The rocky terrain has compelled teams to depend on heavy-duty equipment and expert assistance, and mining specialists and advanced machinery have been deployed to hasten progress.
“Every Second Counts”
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) sub-inspector Mahavir Singh emphasized the urgency and complexity of the operation. “We are getting closer to our target every second,” he said, noting the unwavering resolve of the team. Soldiers and disaster response personnel remain steadfast, coordinating with experts to dig in the right direction while combating tough conditions.
A Community United by Hope
As the rescue goes on, Chetna’s family and villagers eagerly await the news about her condition. District Collector Kalpana Agarwal has described this rescue as the most challenging one Rajasthan has ever had in its history. “The rocky terrain and temperature differences between the surface and tunnel have added to the difficulties,” she explained.
The situation has also invited criticism, with the villagers accusing the administration of being negligent. Still, the officials are quite focused on the task at hand. “We are leaving no stone unturned. All options are being considered, and the best equipment has been deployed,” Agarwal assured.
The Final Stretch
By December 26, a crucial milestone was reached as a casing pipe was lowered into the borewell, providing a lifeline to expedite the rescue. NDRF and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have expressed cautious optimism, hoping to complete the operation by Monday.
Chetna’s story has won millions of hearts. From the other end of the country, people are praying and showing support for her. Even though officials have remained tight-lipped about her condition, rescue teams are still very determined, which is a small glimmer of hope.
