Maharashtra to Introduce Centralized Online Admission System for Std XI from 2025
Pune, 3rd March 2025: The Maharashtra government has announced the statewide implementation of a centralized online admission system for Std XI students from the 2025-26 academic year to simplify the admission process and enhance transparency.
Currently, this system is operational in Mumbai (MMRDA), Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Amravati, Nagpur, and Nashik. The government resolution (GR) issued on Friday evening stated that expanding this system across the state would eliminate manual admission procedures and ensure efficiency.
A Shift from Manual to Digital Admissions
Harun Attar, Deputy Director of Education for Pune Division, explained how this initiative will benefit students. “Until now, students in districts without an online admission system had to visit multiple junior colleges and senior secondary schools to submit physical admission forms. However, in cities like Pune, where the system is already in place, students can fill out an online form, list up to 10 preferred colleges, and get admissions through a transparent, merit-based process,” Attar said.
He further mentioned that his office would compile detailed data on all junior colleges and senior secondary schools in Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Solapur to facilitate a smooth transition to the new system.
Implementation and Responsibilities
The Commissioner of Education, Pune, will oversee the statewide execution of the centralized admission system, while the Director of Education (Secondary and Higher Secondary) will be responsible for its implementation at the divisional level.
As per the GR, divisional deputy directors from Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Amravati, Nashik, Aurangabad, Latur, and Kolhapur must submit detailed data about junior colleges and schools in their respective regions. This data will include:
Branch-wise student intake capacity
Aided and unaided status of institutions
Available subjects and course combinations
This information will be integrated into the online system within a specified timeframe.
Information and Training for Students and Parents
To ensure students and parents understand the new admission process, the education department will provide detailed guidelines and, if necessary, training videos to assist them in navigating the system.
The admission process will include four regular rounds, after which Std XI classes will commence. Admissions will remain open to all students and will strictly follow a merit-based selection process, the GR confirmed.
By implementing a uniform online admission system across Maharashtra, the government aims to simplify procedures, reduce stress for students, and promote fair admissions across all junior colleges.
