Ajit Pawar Identified Through Wristwatch After Tragic Baramati Plane Crash
Baramati, 28th January 2026: In a heartbreaking confirmation, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar was identified through a distinctive wristwatch he was known to wear, following the tragic crash of a chartered aircraft at Baramati Airport on Wednesday morning.
The Learjet 46, operated by Delhi-based VSR Ventures, went down while attempting to land, killing Pawar and four others on board, including his personal security officer, an attendant, and both pilots.
Authorities faced immense challenges in identifying the victims due to the severity of the post-crash fire. Personal belongings such as jewellery, accessories, and watches proved crucial in confirming identities. Pawar’s classic two-tone wristwatch, featuring silver and gold elements with a large dial, became a key identifier. Known for its timeless and recognisable design, the watch had become a signature accessory for Pawar, and coincidentally mirrored the NCP’s election symbol—a clock.
Ajit Pawar, 66, had been travelling to Baramati to attend official programmes and public meetings ahead of the local body elections scheduled for February 5. He is survived by his wife, Rajya Sabha member Sunetra Pawar, and their two sons, Parth and Jay.
