San Diego, 5th April 2023: Over 100 employees from Amazon’s gaming divisions, including Prime Gaming, Game Growth, and the company’s San Diego studio, have been laid off.

According to a report in Engadget, the company is reassigning employees to projects that align with its strategic focus. Laid-off workers have already been informed and will receive severance pay, health benefits, and paid time off to look for work.

Currently, Amazon only offers the game “New World,” and its campaign to promote the free-to-play shooting game “Crucible” was abandoned after a short period.

Even with its Crown channel, an entertainment programme on the Twitch broadcasting service, Amazon has been unable to fully utilise the resources in the market.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy stated in a memo, “I’m writing to let you know that we plan to cut about 9,000 more jobs in the coming weeks, mostly in AWS, PXT, advertising, and Twitch.”
