Anti-Encroachment Drive Under Way Near Afzal Khan’s Tomb In Satara Near Pratapgad, In Compliance With Bombay High Court order: Satara Police
Mahabaleshwar, 10th November 2022: The work of removing the encroachments around Afzal Khan’s tomb at Pratapgad has been started from today (November 10), and for this, a large police force has been deployed at Pratapgad.
The issue of illegal construction near Afzal Khan’s tomb at Pratapgad fort has always been controversial. It often led to protests, and court cases have been filed.
The demolition of encroachments around Afzal Khan’s tomb was started today at around 5.30 am. There is strict security in the area and the road around the tomb has been closed. Today’s action was kept strictly confidential by the administration.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzal Khan at the foot of Pratapgad on this day on November 10, 1659. Today, on the completion of 363 years of this historic event, as per the instructions of the government, the district administration has today started to demolish the unauthorised construction land in the area of Afzal Khan’s tomb at the foot of Pratapgad.
For this, section 144 has been imposed in this area and no one is allowed to go there. This action has been started under the observation of the police force and for this purpose, 1500 policemen have been deployed in four districts for security.
Collector Ruchesh Jayavanshi and Superintendent of Police Sameer Sheikh were contacted in this regard last night. However, they informed that no such action will be taken. But today suddenly the action to demolish the illegal encroachment started.
