New Delhi, 1st July 2021:  Asia’s longest high-speed track for automotive testing was inaugurated by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Not only is it the longest high-speed track in Asia, but it is also the fifth-longest track in the world. This track will be used for automotive and component testing by automobile companies in Pithampur city of Indore.

The track measures 11.3 km, through which the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) will measure the maximum speed capabilities of high-end cars and other categories of vehicles. Development and homologation testing of all types of vehicles will also be conducted on this four-lane track.

Apart from testing purposes on this track, the track can also be used for supercar racing. At the same time, companies can also use the track for vehicle launches and dealer events. The purpose behind making this high-speed track in India is to accelerate vehicle testing in India. The move may help Indore become a vehicle manufacturing hub, as firms will not have to move to other cities for testing purposes.

According to the report, the new high-speed test track is 16 meters wide and oval-shaped. The facility is located 50 km away from Indore and has been set up in about 2,960 acres of land. It is designed for a neutral speed of up to 250 kmph and a maximum speed of up to 375 kmph on curbs. The sheer size of this testing track will prove beneficial to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) as it will be capable of conducting various types of automotive testing,

Such as coast down test, brake test, speedometer calibration, fuel consumption test at constant speed, vehicle noise, vibration etc.

Speaking of NATRAX, it offers 14 different types of test tracks complemented by state-of-the-art testing equipment. These include braking track, handling track, comfort track, gradient track, sustainability track etc. In addition, NATRAX has R&D laboratories and workshops for evaluation testing of all types of vehicles from two-wheelers to heavy commercial trucks.
