Bird Flu Scare: Maharashtra’s Five Districts Including Mumbai And Thane Affected By Avian Influenza

Pune, January 11, 2021: Avian influenza (bird flu) crisis has started to report from different parts of Maharashtra including Parbhani, Mumbai and Thane districts. Dead birds were found in several districts of the state. According to reports, bird flu has spread to many districts in the state, including Mumbai and Thane. In Parbhani district alone, 800 chickens have died in a single day due to bird flu.

At present seven states have reported the bird flu spread. In Maharashtra, the reports of its active impact have arrived from Mumbai, Thane, Parbhani, Beed and Dapoli in Ratnagiri district. Along with Parbhani, dead birds were found in Mumbai, Thane, Beed and other districts. Their samples were sent to the laboratory. After receiving the reports, the administration has informed that bird flu has spread to five districts.

In Murumba village in Parbhani district, 800 hens died on the same day. The poultry farm in which the incident took place is run by a self-help group. There are 8000 hens on the poultry farm, out of which 800 hens have died. Therefore, preventive measures have been taken. About 80,000 hens will be culled, according to the administration.

Twenty-six crows were found dead at Muggaon in Patoda taluka of Beed district on Sunday. The remains of three crows were sent to Bhopal while some other specimens were sent to Pune. Nine crows were found dead near Tata Colony in Mumbai’s Chembur area on Sunday. After getting information about this, the employees of the corporation had sent samples of dead crows for investigation.
