New Delhi, 7th May 2022: Online fraud has increased a lot in the Covid era. Especially the cases of QR Code scams have increased more.

Earlier this year, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s daughter Harshita was the victim of an online scam. She was selling an old sofa set online. Then she became a victim of cyber fraud. The same happened with a person from Mumbai. He wanted to sell his furniture on an online marketplace. He advertised online. A buyer called him and asked him to scan the QR code. Cyber thugs duped him of Rs 5000.

There are some special ways to avoid QR Code Scams. According to cyber experts, by adopting these, you can avoid cyber fraud.

• Giving Remote Access: According to cyber experts, downloading an unverified app gives them remote access to the device. It can be used by fraudsters to steal money through UPI.

• Bee Phishing Scam: Some unverified payment links are sent to mobile via SMS. By clicking on the link, mobile users are taken to the UPI payment app on their phones. It will ask you to select any app for auto debit. After giving permission, the amount will be deducted from your account immediately. So avoid such SMS.

• OTP and PIN sharing: RBI has repeatedly warned that customers should not share their UPI PIN or OTP with anyone. Despite this, some fraudsters succeed in luring customers to share the OTP received on their phone. After sharing it the fraudsters can authenticate the illegitimate transactions and steal the money.

• Fake Handles: Some smart hackers use names like BHIM or SBI on their UPI social pages to give the impression that it is a trusted UPI platform. Hence, UPI users must beware of these hoaxes.
