Diwali Gift for Construction Workers

Pune, November 5, 2018: Construction workers working hard to build dream home of everyone are set to get a Diwali gift from the state government. Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar, State Minister for Labour and Skill Development announced that financial help provided by the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for buying house will now be increased to 2.5 Lac from the exiting amount of rupees 2 Lac. He was speaking at special program organized by CREDAI, Pune Metro at Nanded City for the distribution of benefits to the registered workers. Thus, now the total financial help that registered construction workers can get has gone up to 5 Lac. Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana and Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board will contribute Rs.2.5 Lac each.

Abhyankar, Director General, CREDAI Pune Metro, Urmila Julka, General Manager, CREDAI Pune Metro were present on the occasion.

The need for raising house grant for construction workers under BOCW was put forth by Satish Magar President Elect. CREDAI National. Mentioning this, Nilangekar announced that the grant will be raised by 50 thousand now. He also gave the instructions to the officials of labour department to start distribution of this grant to registered construction workers within a month.

Shrikant Paranjpe and Ranjeet Naiknavare spoke about the efforts being made by CREDAI Pune metro for skill development of labourers in construction industry and highlighted the need for training them to become ‘trainers’. This initiative would cost about Rs. 100 to 150 Cr and CREDAI requested the Minister for extending help. Responding positively to this request Nilangekar asked CREDAI to put up a proposal and assured to do the needful.

There are in all 3 Cr.65 lac unorganized sector labourers and 45 lac registered labourers in the state. Considering the infrastructural growth in Maharashtra in coming 25 years, We will be needing 27 lac registered construction labourers, which is now 11 lac registered construction labourers. Nilangekar also mentioned that over 40 facilitation centers will be started for the labourers.
