Goa Shack Licence Suspended After Tourists Allegedly Assaulted in Calangute
Panaji, 26th March 2026: Authorities in Calangute have suspended the licence of a beach shack following a violent altercation in which a group of tourists from Bengaluru were allegedly attacked late Tuesday night.
The incident took place around 10 pm at a busy beachfront shack in North Goa, where an argument reportedly broke out over the use of sunbeds. According to police, the disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
A complaint filed by a businessman from Bengaluru stated that two shack employees, along with several associates, allegedly assaulted him and six others using metal rods and parts of beach umbrellas. Multiple members of the group sustained serious injuries in the attack, officials said.
Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the case, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the assault.
Authorities revealed that the same shack had been flagged in a previous incident last year and had been issued warnings to comply with regulations and maintain order. However, officials indicated that these directives were not adequately followed.
In the wake of the latest violence, the state tourism department has ordered the temporary suspension of the shack’s operating licence pending further investigation.
The incident has renewed concerns over tourist safety in Goa’s popular beach hubs, especially amid increasing visitor numbers and recurring reports of misconduct at beachfront establishments.
