Pune, 4th June 2021: In this pandemic, helping hands come from unknown directions. Construction workers living in the Hinjawadi area of Pune city had a few such hands helping them in these tough times. Kapil Dev Gaur, a techie and social activist along with his friends from Tinsel County Society, Hinjawadi arranged a ration donation drive for these workers.

On May 30, Kapil and his friends organized a grain donation drive for construction workers. They were able to provide 97 kits of 10 Kg grains to each family at a labour camp in Hinjawadi. They were also able to provide 23 ration kits to the security guards of their society and house helpers.

Talking about this initiative Kapil said, “It was an awesome experience to see that big smile on the faces of the kids there. Families were waiting for their gifts at their door because we asked to follow Covid safety guidelines. So we asked them to stay in their respective environment. We didn’t take any pictures while giving them because that’s a bit embarrassing so we did not take any photo of the people.”

He also added a few words regarding construction workers and their plight. “The construction workers build our beautiful houses but live in these petty conditions. Then they migrate to a new place for their work and again this happens. This is the typical life of a construction worker in India”, he added.

They were not able to cover all the families in the area. “There are around 400+ families and we covered just 97 of them. I know we completed a particular full block which gives us satisfaction but another block was left which gives a bit of sadness. But in the end, I know we did what we could. Within one week we collected Rs 42,500 and purchased 1200 Kg of grains which will help these families for at least 15 days,” informed Kapil.
