LOYOLA FOOTBALL CUP: Fighting Loyola H.S rule the roost, The Bishop’s School prevent hosts clean sweep with U-12 win

Pune, 2nd August 2023: Hosts Loyola High School ruled, but it was The Bishop’s School, Camp who prevented the hosts from sweeping total stakes in the Loyola Football Cup powered by Tata Autocomp at the Loyola H.S ground, Pashan, here on Wednesday.

The tournament, organised by the Ex Loyola Students Network (ELAN) and Loyola High School, Pune ended with hard-fought victories being the order of the day.

Loyola H.S, eventually, claimed the Under-14 and 16 titles but fell short in the Under-12 final.

In the Under-12 final, The Bishop’s School, Camp topped with a 2-0 win over the hosts. Both goals were netted in a span of six minutes to land them the title. The first came from Hitaansh Khatri (38th) and the other by Abheer Jadhav (43rd) to begin the day on a high.

Later, in the Under-14 section Loyola H.S bounced back registering a 6-4 tie-breaker win after being held to a 2-2 draw in regulation. The Bishop’s School began on a high with Rehan Jaipuri (18th) giving the lead, however Param Kulkarni’s brace (38th and 41st) was enough for Loyola H.S to turntables and lead 2-1.

With the game almost going the Loyola H.S way, it was Rajveer Singh (60+3) who equalized and help The Bishop’s School stay in the game with another chance.

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Param Kulkarni, Aaryavardhan Kakade, Parth Shinde, Kharanshu Gajare found the net for the hosts, however The Bishop’s School could only convert two via Joshua Songate and Aaryaveer Singh after Rehan’s save was saved and Divyan Kaushik missed his.

The Under-16 final was a seven-goal thriller which eventually saw Loyola H.S walk tall in a comeback 4-3 win. The Bishop’s School went ahead via Aariz Shaikh (15th) which was later equalized (1-1) by Vedant Kamble (39th).

Thereafter, Loyola H.S had Lavya Asrani (53rd) and Vedant Gupta (57th) account for the tally, while Aariz Shaikh (54th) added another and Atharva Phadtare (55th) struck one each for The Bishop’s School.

With the game level at 3-3, Vedant (58th) struck the winner for the hosts to land his team the second title of the day.

Later the prizes were given away by Arvid Goel, MD Tata Motocomm, Fr. Anish Principal Loyola H.S in the presence of Manoj Walvekar, President ELAN and Harjeet Matharu, Secretary ELAN.
