Mumbai, Mar 14, 2020: Since it was not possible to place the Bill to check crimes against women in this assembly session cut short due to the threat of Coronavirus, a request to convene special two-day session for this will be made to the Chief Minister, Hoe Minister Anil Deshmukh informed the Assembly through a statement.

Making a statement in this regard today, Deshmukh said that the state government intended to bring new legislation to check crimes against women and to make them more empowered. We visited Andhra Pradesh to know about their ‘DISHA’ Act, he said.

With this new law, the government proposes to conduct speedy investigation and punish the culprits. We had planned to bring this bill in the budget session and get it passed in to an act. Remarks of Law and Justice, Women and Child Welfare and Finance Departments were necessary regarding the provisions of this bill. But the session was curtailed due to outbreak of coronavirus in the country and the state making it impossible to place the proposed bill before the legislative assembly.

Therefore, the special request will be made to the chief minister to convene a special session of the assembly after the coronavirus emergency is contained and controlled so that proposed bill can be presented to both the houses of the legislature and members can have ample time to express their views on it, the Home Minister said.
