Pune, 17th May 2024: The State Education Department has announced the reopening of the admission process under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2024-25, starting from Friday.

This decision follows a recent development where the Bombay High Court granted an interim stay on the state government’s rule issued on February 9. The rule permitted private unaided schools to allocate 25% admissions under RTE only in cases where there are no government or aided schools within a 1-kilometer radius.

While the education department portrayed the amendment as a “reform” aimed at bolstering government schools without compromising the interests of RTE beneficiaries, certain stakeholders have criticized it as a “regressive” step.

Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, stated, “The registration process for RTE will recommence on May 17. All parents are required to re-register on the RTE portal. All previously aided, private aided, and unaided schools will be listed on the portal. I will address the issue of bogus students once authentic data is obtained. However, I believe RTE admissions and bogus students are separate matters.”
