Pune, 11th June 2021: Pune city has received rainfall throughout the year leading to overflowing of the rivers, nullahs and other water resources. Likewise, the local administration has failed to clean the rivers, nullahs etc.

With the onset of the monsoon, environmental experts have warned that the city might face flooding. While giving the warning, the experts have pointed out that the southern part of the city is especially in danger of flooding during the monsoon. The Ambil Odha which was flooded two years ago had devastated the entire area with thousands of families being displaced.

The south Pune consists of Ambil Odha, Katraj lake and Sinhgad Road. The unregulated development of Sinhgad road too has pushed the area under the danger of floods. This area receives more rain compared to other parts of the city.

Dr Shrikant Gabale, a geologist said, “There has been good rainfall in the catchment areas. With cleaning work at the water resources yet unfinished, the danger of flood lurks large in Ambil Odha. When a nullah flows near the city, its capacity reduces. There have been several encroachments along the side of Ambil Odha and Katraj lake. We need proper water planning to avoid the flooding in the city”.
