Pune, 28th March 2023: The work of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Pune-Nashik Green Corridor Highway has started, for which a consulting firm was appointed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). It has come to light that this corridor will be completely different from the Pune-Nashik high-speed rail line.

Regarding the Pune-Green Corridor road, MSRDC had started the tender process to appoint a consultant and brought it to the final stage. Therefore, work began simultaneously on two levels, i.e., railway and industrial routes. Due to this, many questions arose about the railway line and green corridor location. But MSRDC has appointed an independent consultancy firm to prepare DPR for Pune-Nashik Green Corridor Highway. The work of preparing DPR has started with them.

The project is essential as:

• Pune is an information technology, industrial and cultural city.

• Nashik is a market for agricultural goods.

• A large number of IT companies are established in Nashik city.

• Both these cities have networks of small, medium, and heavy industry factories and agricultural institutions.

• Considering all these aspects, the Green Corridor is proposed to connect Pune through Samriddhi Highway.

‘Vision 2020’ has been prepared by the Ministry of Railways and is planned to build a semi-high speed railway between Pune-Nashik. The design of this railway has been completed and approved by the Ministry of Railways and the State Government.

Land acquisition work for the same started, and a proposal for final approval is pending. At the same time, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered MSRDC to prepare a technical and financial feasibility report for the Pune to Nashik Industrial Expressway attached to the railway project. After that, the debate started about high-speed rail or road.

Important milestones:

• The length of the proposed Pune-Nashik corridor is 178 km.

• Rs 21,158 crore expected, including land acquisition

• The land to be acquired is 2,000 hectares
