One Day National Virtual Round Table on Regulation of Social and Digital Media Platforms and OTT in India
Pune, 21st May 2021: Symbiosis Law School, Pune is proud to host a One-Day National Virtual Round Table on Regulation of Social and Digital Media Platforms and OTT in India, in collaboration with Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication(SCMC), Pune, Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Pune (SIMC), Symbiosis Institute of Digital and Telecom Management (SIDTM), Pune, on 22nd May 2021 at 11 am IST through Zoom platform.
This interdisciplinary roundtable aims to discuss the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 for the regulation of social media and OTT (digital media) platforms. This enriching interdisciplinary discourse aims to encourage deliberation on the extremely relevant Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. It will provide opportunities for enhanced research skills, future collaborations and joint publications. It will synthesise reform recommendations besides generating awareness.
The event will commence with the Inaugural Ceremony at 11:00 am and will be graced by Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Pro Chancellor, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Dr. Rajni Gupte, Vice Chancellor Symbiosis International University, Pune; Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Fulbright Scholar, Director SLS, Pune and Dean, Faculty of Law, SI(DU), Mr. Hitesh Jain, Managing Partner, Parinam Law Associates, Ms. Alpa Golcha, Creative Producer, Amazon Prime, Dr. Ruchi Jaggi, Director, Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Dr. Sreeram Gopalkrishnan, Professor, Symbiosis Centre of Media and Communication, Mr. Vishal Jain, Partner, Deloitte and Mr. Dominic Dsouza, Former VP, Legal Team of Zee and Star and Dr. CA. Abhijit Chirputkar, Director, Symbiosis Institute of Digital & Telecom Management (SIDTM), Pune.
The inaugural will be followed by one plenary session, two panel discussions and paper presentation. The plenary will mark the address by Mr. Hitesh Jain Managing Partner, Parinam Law Associates on OTT Regulations: Emerging Legal and Policy Dimensions.
The plenary session will be followed by the first panel on the theme ‘Decoding the Regulatory Framework for OTT Platforms: Impact on Creativity and Content’. The panel discussion will be marked by the presence of distinguished speakers like Ms Alpa Golcha, Creative Producer, Amazon Prime; Mr Dominic Dsouza, Former VP, Legal of Zee and Star and Dr. Sreeram Gopalkrishnan, Director SCMC, Pune.
The second Panel is on the theme ‘Law and Policy with reference to Social Media Intermediaries: Prospects and Challenges’ The panel discussion will be marked by presence of distinguished speakers like Mr. Vishal Jain, Partner, Deloitte; Mr Dominic Dsouza; Former VP, Legal of Zee and Star and Dr. Ramamurthy Venkateswaran, Professor, SIDTM, Pune.
The panel discussions will be followed by paper presentations by presenters from various national universities, academicians, and students from law schools and universities across India on a plethora of themes revolving around digital media regulation. Pressing issues like censorship on digital media, the right to privacy in the digital domain, content regulation and ethics and artificial intelligence in automated censorship will be the focus of research. The paper presentations aim to encourage participants to delve into contemporary issues relating to media platforms and also develop the spirit of research while contributing to discourse.
