Over 10,000 Autorickshaw Drivers Penalised By Pune Police, RTO For Violation For Various Rules

Pune, 17th September 2021: In the backdrop of the involvement of autorickshaw drivers in the kidnapping of minor girls for sexual assault earlier this month, Pune city police and the regional transport office (RTO) has launched a crackdown on errant drivers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rahul Shrirame told PunekarNews.in that action has been taken against over 10,000 autorickshaw drivers for violations of various rules.

“The violations included not wearing uniforms, not carrying proper documents, batches besides wrong side driving among others”, DCP Shrirame said.

While speaking to media persons at Patrakar Bhavan on Thursday, Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta had said, “I am bringing RTO, PMPML, PMC and all stakeholders on one table wherein we will use technology and less manpower to curb the incidents related to women safety. Whatever the citizens need will be done for the safety and security of women.”

Deputy RTO Sanjeev Bhor said that the RTO has taken against 542 autorickshaw drivers for not complying with the norms.
