Over 7.3 Lakh Candidates Appear in Advanced Railway Recruitment Exams; Results Finalised for 31,000 Posts
New Delhi, 05th February 2026: Indian Railways has completed multiple stages of recruitment examinations for various categories, with more than 7.3 lakh candidates appearing in second-stage and skill-based tests, according to official information placed in the Lok Sabha.
The second-stage Computer Based Tests (CBT) were conducted for four major recruitment categories. For the post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP), 2,66,363 candidates appeared against 18,799 vacancies across 112 cities in 15 languages. The second-stage CBT for Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts, involving 7,951 vacancies, was taken by 1,17,339 candidates in 118 cities.
For Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) at the graduate level, 1,21,931 candidates appeared for 8,113 vacancies in 129 cities, while 51,978 candidates took the second-stage CBT for 3,445 undergraduate-level NTPC vacancies across 79 cities. In total, 5,57,611 candidates appeared in these second-stage examinations.
In addition, Computer Based Aptitude Tests (CBAT), Translation Tests and Skill Tests have also been completed. The CBAT for ALP posts was conducted for 1,32,044 candidates in 84 cities in two languages. The Translation Test for Ministerial and Isolated Categories was held for 1,233 candidates in eight cities. The CBAT for NTPC (Graduate) involved 13,616 candidates across 38 cities, while the Computer Based Typing Skill Test for graduate-level NTPC posts was conducted for 30,341 candidates in 58 cities. These tests together covered 1,77,234 candidates.
Separately, the CBT for Level-1 categories, covering 32,438 vacancies, commenced on 27 November 2025 and is being held in 140 cities in 15 languages. The Physical Efficiency Test for 4,208 Constable posts in the Railway Protection Force was completed on 6 December 2025.
Indian Railways has also finalised results for more than 31,000 candidates for various posts, including Technicians, Junior Engineers, Paramedical Categories, Sub-Inspectors of RPF and Assistant Loco Pilots, with a majority of selections in safety-related categories.
The House was further informed that, under the Annual Calendar for 2025, nine Centralized Employment Notifications have been issued for 50,970 vacancies, including 3,412 vacancies in Southern Railway and 438 vacancies in the Integral Coach Factory.
