Pimpri Chinchwad, 16th March 2023: The officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) conducted a two-day campaign in the Anandnagar area near Chinchwad station and exposed around 1400 domestic power thefts. The campaign was conducted by Kritika Bhosale, branch engineer of MSEDCL, and 17 staff.

Citizens in the area have been requesting new household electricity connections since the campaign. Aerial bunch cable will be installed in the next 15 days to prevent electricity theft in the area.

The Anandnagar area comes under the Chinchwad branch of the Bhosari division, and a 315 KVA capacity generator was broken in the area. While inspecting it, officials found that the transformer was out of order due to electricity theft. A new transformer was installed 10 days ago. However, it malfunctioned again after two days.

To combat power theft, 15 Janamitras along with Assistant Engineer of Chinchwad Branch Kritika Bhosle and Assistant Engineers of Akurdi Sub-Division Office Shital Kinkar and Amit Patil started a special campaign against power theft in Anandnagar on Wednesday at 10 am. About 1,400 household electricity thefts were detected by direct meter reading and other methods, and all the materials used for electricity theft were seized. Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar interacted with Assistant Engineer Kritika Bhosale and appreciated her and all her colleagues. Bhosari Executive Engineer Uday Bhosale, Additional Executive Engineer Umesh Kawade also supported this campaign.

During the campaign, officials discovered that electricity theft was still happening even after the electricity meter was removed and the electricity supply was cut off permanently. It was also found that some people have stolen electricity by directly hooking on the cable. Citizens were urged to get authorized new household electricity connections, and around 60 thousand rupees have been paid towards the arrears so far for getting new electricity connections. The demand for new power connections has also increased.

The campaign against electricity theft was a success, and the installation of aerial bunch cable in the next 15 days will prevent electricity theft in the Anandnagar area.
