Pune: After Dussehra, Plane Travel Costs Increase Around Diwali As Well
Pune, 13th October 2022: Because of the high cost of flying during Dussehra, many people had to stretch their vacation finances or cancel their travel plans. The situation does not appear to change much as Diwali approaches.
In comparison to places like Delhi or Bengaluru with numerous connections, airfare from Pune to many cities, especially the smaller ones like Patna and Ranchi with less connectivity, is incredibly expensive.
Santosh Bharose, a resident of Viman Nagar, said, ‘’We intended to travel to Patna to celebrate Diwali with family back home. But, due to the exorbitant travel fare, only my wife will travel to Patna, while I will stay with our children in Pune. I can’t afford to spend Rs 70,000 on a plane ticket to Patna. The train is also not an option because there are no tickets available.”
The demand for travel and airfares has grown. According to a Pune-based travel agency, RAAJ Tours and Travels, “Airfares on popular routes are rising from hubs like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Bengaluru. Following a two-year decline in demand caused by travel restrictions during the Covid epidemic, the 2022 holiday season has seen a substantial increase in demand across sectors.’’ According to a senior executive of an online travel agency, “Airfares are up by roughly 14.5% in comparison to 2021 due to the surge in demand this year.’’
According to the owner of Devam Tours and Travels and director of the Travel Agents Association of Pune, Nilesh Bhansali, ‘’Airfares during this holiday season, including Diwali, were over 40% more than in 2019. This time, the tickets are between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000, compared to the Diwali 2019 prices of Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 per sector.’’
