Pune Boy Avirat Chauhan Wins Gold Medal In Asian School Chess Championship 2021

Pune, 10th August 2021: Avirat Chauhan, a 2nd-grade student of Vibgyor High School Pune, won a Gold Medal for India in Asian School Chess Championship 2021 in the under-7 category.

He won the Championship by winning all games but one. In this tournament, the top 56 players from 24 Asian countries had participated. Earlier, Avirat had won AICF National School Chess Championship 2021 in the under-7 category.

With his win in Asian Championship, he has qualified to play in the World School Chess Championship to be held later this year.

The tournament was held on 15th and 16th July in an online format where a widely used platform Tornelo was used. Avirat remained undefeated in the tournament and scored 8.5 points out of a maximum of 9 points to win the championship.

Avirat also stood 2nd in the MCA Maharashtra state school chess championship which was held from 28-30th June. In this tournament, Avirat lost one game against Vihaan Agrawal and had to be content with 2nd rank. This clash of titans repeated in the National school championship where Avirat was paired opposite
Vihaan Agrawal again, but this was a different time and a different game. Avirat made no mistakes and won the game easily. This turned out to be a crucial win for the National school championship title.

Avirat is AICF’s official entry for the Asian school under-7 chess championship to be held on 29-31 st July. Avirat trains with SW Chess Academy.
