Pune Businessman Cheated Of Rs 4.5 Crore In Online Fraud By Hacking His Email

Pune, 11th September 2021: A Pune businessman has been cheated of Rs 4.5 crore after his email was hacked. Mundhwa police station under Pune city police has registered a case of fraud.

The 48-year-old businessman is in the business of dealing and selling expensive paintings abroad.

The complainant’s company and Gerard Marti were in the process of purchasing an expensive painting. The perpetrators contacted the complainant using a fake email ID in the name of Gerard Marti and sent him an email. By sending the bank details, they cracked the email.

This email was transacted 7 to 8 times. The company transferred the money to the scammer’s bank account believing it to be Gerard Marti bank account. The transaction was worth Rs 4.5 crore.
However, when the complainant found out that he had been cheated, he lodged a complaint with the police. The fraud took place between March 26 and May 2021.

Police have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code and the Information and Technology Act and further investigation are underway.
