Pune Businessman Robbed Of Rs 53,000 By Impostors Posing As Police Amidst Social Media Connection

Pune, 18th August 2023: A businessman paid a steep price for connecting with a stranger on social media, falling victim to a meticulously orchestrated scam. The distressing incident unfolded in the Warje area, where the woman’s accomplices, posing as police officers, duped the businessman of Rs 53,000 in cash.

The victim promptly lodged a formal complaint at the Warje police station. As per the complaint provided by the businessman, a case has been registered against Manisha, the woman in question, and her two collaborators. The complainant, a resident of the Ravet in Pimpri-Chinchwad and a businessman by profession, had accepted a friend request from Manisha on a social media platform.

Subsequently, the woman initiated contact with the businessman and proposed a rendezvous at a hotel situated in the Warje area. To the businessman’s dismay, he encountered not just Manisha but also two other individuals during the meeting. These individuals, feigning as police officers, leveled serious allegations against the businessman, accusing him of misconduct towards women and illicit filming. Employing intimidation tactics, they coerced him into accompanying them to an ATM center in the Warje locality under the guise of an investigation.

Seizing the opportunity, the perpetrators capitalized on the victim’s fear, extracting a sum of Rs 53,000 from the ATM. Once their nefarious objective was fulfilled, the two men vanished from the scene. Promptly realizing the gravity of the situation, the businessman reported the incident to the police.
