Pune, 2nd September 2025: Residents near Sambhaji Udyan and Narayan Peth have expressed their excitement over the newly inaugurated pedestrian bridge connecting Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden Metro Station to Shaniwar Peth.
Inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday, the landmark structure has been praised not only as a “marvel of engineering” but also as a symbol of Pune’s cultural identity. Locals described the bridge as a much-needed convenience, offering a safe and direct link to the metro station.
One of the project supervisors grew emotional during the event, comparing the bridge to “a baby who has now grown up.” He also hinted at upcoming developments, confirming that work on the long-awaited Bhide Bridge project will commence soon.
The bridge stands out for its unique cable-stayed design, featuring a 70-degree inclined pylon and 20 high-tension cables, creating a dynamic appearance that changes with every viewing angle. Many residents appreciated its tanpura-inspired shape, which adds an artistic flair while blending modern engineering with Pune’s cultural heritage.
Local citizens lauded the collaborative effort between authorities and residents that brought the project to completion. With the new pedestrian bridge, thousands from Shaniwar Peth, Narayan Peth, and surrounding areas will now enjoy safer, faster, and more convenient access to the Pune Metro.
