Pimpri, 26th March 2024: A 19-year-old disabled student enrolled in the second year of BBA at a prestigious college in Lonavala has been hospitalized after reportedly experiencing a brain stroke as a result of severe ragging. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital, sparking outrage and demands for justice from her parents.

According to reports, the victim, residing in a hostel alongside three other female students, endured relentless harassment and torment from her fellow residents. Allegations suggest that the perpetrators subjected the victim to physical assault, including stabbing her multiple times, and engaged in verbal taunts and mockery due to her disability. These distressing acts persisted for a period of two to three months, culminating in a traumatic incident that led to the victim’s hospitalization.

The victim’s father, distraught by the ordeal his daughter endured, lodged a formal complaint with the Lonavala Rural Police. The complaint details the harrowing experiences faced by the victim, including threats, intimidation, and physical violence inflicted by her peers. Despite attempts to address the issue through official channels, including reporting the matter to the college principal, the victim’s family claims to have encountered resistance and indifference, with concerns over potential repercussions on the perpetrator’s academic career taking precedence over justice for the victim.

The victim’s parents have urged authorities to take action against the accused individuals responsible for the alleged ragging, emphasizing the need for accountability and deterrent measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Senior Police Inspector Dhumal of the Lonavala Rural Police Station assured that the matter is being investigated, despite challenges posed by the victim’s inability to communicate verbally. Efforts to gather evidence and testimonies are underway.
