Pune: Ekvira Devi Temple Near Lonavala to Enforce Dress Code from July 7
Lonavala, 30th June 2025: Starting July 7, 2025, the Ekvira Devi Temple near Lonavala will implement a mandatory dress code for all devotees. The temple management has announced that visitors wearing attire considered inappropriate for a religious setting—such as shorts, mini-skirts, ripped jeans, or sleeveless tops—will not be allowed to enter the temple premises.
Situated near the historic Karla Caves, the Ekvira Devi Temple is a significant religious site in Maharashtra and draws thousands of devotees each month. The temple holds deep cultural and spiritual importance, particularly for the Koli community, and experiences large crowds during weekends and festivals.
To maintain decorum and uphold traditional values, the temple trust has decided to enforce this dress code. According to the directive, women and girls are expected to wear traditional outfits like sarees, salwar-kameez, or full-length kurtas. Men and boys must wear dhotis, kurta-pajamas, or full-length pants and shirts. Clothing that exposes the shoulders, thighs, or midriff will be considered inappropriate.
The temple administration has begun placing signboards throughout the complex to inform visitors of the new rules. These boards include both images and written instructions to clearly outline acceptable attire. Security personnel and temple staff have been instructed to ensure respectful enforcement of the guidelines.
The dress code will be strictly enforced from the announced date, and individuals not adhering to it will be politely denied entry. The temple trust has appealed to devotees to cooperate with the guidelines in order to preserve the sanctity and cultural heritage of the shrine.
