Pimpri, 17th April 2023: The building of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), which houses the office of the State Excise Department, has been found to be involved in electricity theft. Private vehicles are reportedly being charged by stealing electricity from municipal buildings.

The PCMC has constructed several buildings in various areas of the city that are also available for rent. The building in question is located under the Municipal C ward Office in Pimpri. On the ground floor, there is the office of the State Excise Department’s E and F Ward in Pimpri, while the rest of the building houses the municipal employees. Additionally, there is a cooler connection for drinking water.

Sagar Charan, a social activist and member of the District Vigilance Committee, has revealed that some individuals are stealing electricity from the building. They are allegedly charging their electric vehicles by taking the connection from the plug for the cooler.

According to Charan, citizens, as well as some employees and officials, are charging their electric vehicles by illegally using electricity from the municipal electricity meter. Illegal electricity usage has reportedly been observed in many government offices.

Senior officials have reportedly ignored the electricity theft by employees and officers. However, a complaint has been lodged with Collector Rajesh Deshmukh and Commissioner Shekhar Singh.

Sagar Ratan Charan has stated that many buildings constructed by the Municipal Corporation are rented out and that a case of electricity theft has been revealed in a building in Pimpri. Evidence has been provided to the Commissioner, and appropriate action should be taken against those employees and officers found guilty after the investigation, as per rules.
