Kothrud, 21st January 2024: In a heartening turn of events, a seven-month-old boy, discovered near a nullah in Kothrud, has been successfully reunited with his parents. The reunion, made possible by the swift response of two constables from the Damini Squad on Friday.

Senior Police Inspector Anita More from the Bharosa Cell of Pune Police shared the details of the rescue operation. Local residents alerted the Kothrud police upon spotting the infant amidst a pile of garbage near a nullah. The Damini Squad constables promptly arrived at the scene, bringing the child to the police station for further action.

Upon reaching the police station, the baby underwent a medical examination, ensuring his well-being. Demonstrating compassion, the constables procured new clothes for the child and arranged for milk to meet his immediate needs.

With a commitment to reuniting the child with his family, the police team circulated photographs of the boy to various police stations. The Damini Marshals from Bund Garden police recognized the child from the circulated images and promptly contacted Kothrud police. It was revealed that the boy had been reported kidnapped by his parents from the footpath near Pune railway station the night before.

Inspector More explained, “CCTV footage indicated that a man, walking on the footpath, took the child while the parents were asleep nearby. The parents, who make a living by selling trinkets and begging for alms, were unaware of the incident.” A kidnapping case was registered against the man with the Bund Garden police.

While the boy was joyfully reunited with his parents, the police team observed that the family lacked the resources to care for him adequately. Recognizing the need for the child’s welfare, the authorities took swift action. The child was presented before the appropriate authorities and subsequently placed under the care of an NGO for foster care.

This heartwarming reunion underscores the crucial role played by vigilant citizens and the commendable efforts of law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable members of society.
