Pune, 9th April 2023: In Katraj-Kondhwa, a lush forest area in the southern part of Pune, environmentalists fear that the picturesque scenery will disappear due to the rampant unauthorized constructions and neglect by the administration. The area, which is home to many small and big hills, is rich in biodiversity and is the origin of the Ambil stream that caused destruction in Pune a few years ago.

Despite its beauty, the area has been subjected to encroachments, population increase, and unauthorized constructions without permits from the construction department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The construction and encroachment clearance departments have ignored the issue, and many builders have taken advantage of the hilly areas to construct buildings, putting the hills in danger.

The forest department has also neglected the area, and there have been incidents of fires and tree-cutting by unknown individuals.

Environmentalist Kiran Bhandari highlights the importance of respecting nature and the need for the administration to take appropriate measures to preserve the hills and the environment. The lack of attention by the authorities to control unauthorized constructions and protect the scenic area has raised concerns about its future.

Jambhulwadi Lake, one of the tranquil spots in the area, adds to the beauty of the surroundings. However, the hills are being encroached upon, and there is a need for proper attention from the administration to prevent further damage to the environment. The neglect of the administration in controlling the unauthorized constructions raises doubts about their ability to preserve the area’s natural beauty.
