Katraj, 27th May 2022: Due to the increasing population of vehicles, haphazard parking, and encroachments on highways, commuters are finding it difficult to obtain parking spaces.

Although the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has parking lots all around the city, citizens, like in the example at Katraj Dairy area, can never be sure of the hourly prices.

Commuters claim they are charged arbitrarily and have urged that the practice be stopped immediately. The rates are not mentioned on the receipt received after paying the parking fees, it was discovered. The rates are communicated orally by the attendant.

It should be noted that the city’s PMC parking lots are separated into three categories: A, B, and C, and are managed by contractors.

Users are practically at the mercy of the contractors allocated to them, who charge according to their own whims and fancies.

Krishna Constructions runs the parking space near Katraj Dairy. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers can be parked here. The parking receipt handed to owners of vehicles does not mention the parking charges. The charge was Rs 20 for a two-wheeler for one hour.

One of the attendants said, “We charge Rs 20 whether you park your vehicle for one hour or 24 hours. While for a four-wheeler, the charge is Rs 20 per hour.”

The rates are also not displayed anywhere in the parking lot. One of the citizens says, “I was given a bill for Rs 20. I called the PMC ward office when I noticed that the prices were not included on the receipt. I discovered that the rate for two-wheelers is Rs 2 per hour, whereas the tariff for four-wheelers is Rs 10 per hour. I requested that the contractor speak with the police officer. The contractor then lowered the price.”
