Pune: PMPML E-Bus To Sinhagad Fort Starts Moving Back Due To Overload, Passengers Made To Alight Midway
Pune, 11th May 2022: The e-bus service launched last week at the Sinhagad Fort has turned into a nightmare after the bus carrying passengers up to the top became overloaded and began descending.
Some passengers were compelled to disembark in order for the bus to proceed. They had to walk the entire way to the top. The visitors have urged that the forest department and the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) authorities replace the e-buses with the currently existing CNG buses in order to avoid any mishaps.
Tourists expressed their dissatisfaction with the high bus ticket prices and parking fees after officials banned private vehicles from entering the country on May 1. The weekends are particularly busy at the fort, causing considerable traffic congestion in the environmentally fragile area. The PMPML, the state forest department, and the Pune district administration collaborated to launch an electric bus service in order to reduce pollution.

“Some of the passengers had to practically jump out of the bus after they realised the vehicle was moving in reverse due to its huge load,” Mangesh Navghane, one of the tourists who captured the terrifying event on his phone, said.
“Inside the bus, there were several youngsters and senior residents, which was a frightening sight,” he added.
Another tourist, techie Manish Kale, reported that the buses were frequently released in the middle of their journey. “There is only one charging station which is insufficient to sustain the enormous strain of the number of e-buses,” he explained.

“The service was begun on a trial basis for one and a half months,” according to one of the PMPML officers.
The Pune forest department’s Bhamburda range forest officer, Pradeep Sankpal, said they’ve been in negotiations with the Public Works Department (PWD) to decrease the steep turns and widen the route. There’s also the matter of charging stations to consider.
He said, “We’re also intending to build two charging stations, one in the middle of the road and the other in the parking lot area.”
