Pune 18th August 2023: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) E-buses are turning out to be a major inconvenience to commuters on several trips as many of them are failing to complete the trip due to drained battery during the journey. According to officials, around 10 to 12 e-buses are failing to complete their trips due to this issue every day.

The officials have blamed heavy traffic jams reported on the city roads which according to them consumes more battery and the battery is drained out before the expected distance or time. However, the commuters have to face inconvenience due to this issue as they have to find an alternate transport or wait for another bus to complete their journey in such situations.

To find a solution to this, the PMPML has asked the contractors operating E-buses to keep 10% buses reserved at the depot so that they can be kept fully charged and the buses don’t run on less charged batteries. According to officials, shortage of adequate buses forces the driver to run half charged buses which often causes this problem. An E-bus runs upto 220 to 225 Km after a full charge and it requires at least one hour to fully charge. PMPML currently has 458 E-buses operating from 5 of the total 15 depots.
