Pimpri, 17th December 2022: In Pimpri-Chinchwad city, large co-operative housing societies that generate 100 kg of solid waste per day are required to establish projects on their premises for the disposal of solid waste, also known as wet waste.

In October, the municipality had stated that it would not collect the waste unless a solid waste treatment plant was set up in the cooperative housing society. Federschen and Co-operative Housing Society officials took a firm stance against this decision. The political environment in the city heated this choice. As a result, Chandrakant Patil, the district guardian minister, put a hold on the municipal corporation’s decision not to dispose of wet waste.

Under the Union Government’s Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change Municipal Solid Waste Management and Handling Rules 2016, the Municipal Health Department now oversees housing institutions, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and universities with more than 50 flats generating 100 kg of waste per day, other educational institutions, hostels, markets, buildings or undertakings occupied by Central Government Departments, State Government Departments or Undertakings Composting, biomethanization, or other technologies must be used to dispose of biodegradable waste generated in the establishment on their premises.

The municipality’s website contains comprehensive information regarding composting methods.

Shekhar Singh, the administrator and PCMC commissioner, has issued a warning that if this solid waste is not managed, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed the first time and Rs 15,000 will be imposed the second time. On Thursday (December 15), the Health Department issued a public notice regarding this matter.

Additionally, the Municipal Corporation has established a seven-member committee consisting of representatives from cooperative societies and federations as well as Additional Commissioner Jitendra Wagh and Deputy Commissioner of the Health Department Ajay Charthankar in order to find a long-term solution to this broad problem. The principal meeting of this board of trustees will be held one week from now.
