Pune, 30th May 2023: Appointment of professors in universities and colleges across the country and the process of awarding Ph.D. degrees will now be monitored by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The UGC has set up a standing committee to prevent irregularities in the process, and to monitor the appointment of professors, the committee will look into the cases of violation of the relevant rules and propose action.

UGC has released a circular in this regard. The UGC released the regulations in 2018 for the appointment of professors and in 2022 for Ph.D. Since these rules are binding on higher education institutions, it is expected that the process will be implemented as per the rules.

However, UGC has noticed that there are irregularities and violations of rules by higher education institutions in this process. Therefore, the UGC clarified through a circular that it has decided to form a committee to prevent violations of the rules.

It has been stated that the Standing Committee will meet after a certain period to review the complaints, scrutinize the relevant documents and then propose action to the UGC regarding the violation of the rules. It is appealed to complain at the [email protected] if any violation of the rules is noticed by higher education institutions.
