Pune, 10th October 2022: PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Limited) India, the Consulting Agency, has declared their year-end holidays from 24th December 2022 to 1st January 2023. The announcement was made via their social media handles, Including Instagram and Twitter. However, the agency stated that it will take a few days out of the employees’ balanced earned leaves for the break.

“This year, Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on weekends, so we will have a total of nine days included in the break, including five weekdays. The firm will contribute two days and the remaining three days will be adjusted from your earned leave balance. Like last year, for those who have insufficient earned leave balance, these three days will be considered as advance leaves.” This adjustment has left an unpleasant taste for many.

Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), tweeted, “Taking away earned leave and saying we are going on break; kudos PwC India.” Many Twitter users also shared and showcased their displeasure in the comment section of Saluja’s tweet. “It’s the same in many product-based companies and I feel this should stop; people may not wish to take these leaves and their balance may even become negative. If it’s a company shut down, no leaves should be deducted,” one of the comments read. Another individual stated that these routines fall under “unfair employment practices.”

Meanwhile, the official announcement also stated, “We are still a couple of months away from the year-end; however, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for carrying forward the firm’s rich legacy of building trust and delivering sustained outcomes. Our annual break is a cherished tradition and I encourage you to utilize it to relax, spend time with your loved ones and focus on your well-being and happiness. We have accomplished much together, and we look forward to creating greater value when we resume on the other side of the break.”
