Mumbai, 12th August 2023: Red Chillies Entertainment, the production company owned by Shah Rukh Khan, has lodged a formal complaint with the authorities, asserting that certain excerpts from the upcoming film “Jawan,” featuring King Khan himself, were illicitly procured and disseminated online. As per a report from Free Press Journal, the complaint was formally registered at the Santacruz police station in Mumbai on August 10, under the ambit of the Information Technology Act. In the complaint, Red Chillies Entertainment has alleged that the unauthorized sharing of the Jawan clips online constitutes an infringement of copyright.

It has been disclosed that a total of five Twitter accounts have been identified as the sources responsible for the unauthorized distribution of the videos, and legal notifications have been dispatched to these accounts. Regrettably, only one of these Twitter profiles has acknowledged receipt of the notice.

This is not the initial instance of Jawan clips finding their way onto the internet without proper authorization. Back in April of this year, the Delhi High Court issued directives to various social media platforms, questionable websites, cable TV networks, direct-to-home services, and other related platforms, urging them to expunge the leaked Jawan videos from their platforms and halt any further circulation. This decision was reached after a legal action initiated by Red Chillies Entertainment, the production company owned by Shah Rukh Khan and his spouse Gauri Khan.

According to the contentions presented in court, “The plaintiff (Red Chillies) contends that these leaked video excerpts flagrantly infringe upon the plaintiff’s copyrights and intellectual property rights, leading to harm and detriment to the plaintiff. The leaked video segments collectively divulge the appearance of the actors in the film, as well as the music—both of which are typically disclosed at strategically timed intervals as part of a meticulously orchestrated marketing approach for a film.”

During the filming of Jawan, Red Chillies Entertainment took the proactive measure of prohibiting mobile phones and recording devices on the set, aiming to prevent any inadvertent leaks.

Shah Rukh Khan’s film “Jawan,” written and directed by Atlee, features an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, and Riddhi Dogra in pivotal roles. Additionally, Deepika Padukone is set to make a special appearance in the movie. The release date for “Jawan” is scheduled for September 7 of the current year.
