New Delhi, 16th June 2026: In a major pre-exam security measure, the Central Government has temporarily restricted Telegram services across India ahead of the Re-NEET UG 2026 examination scheduled for June 21. The curbs are expected to remain in effect until June 22 as authorities attempt to prevent the spread of fake question papers, misleading rumours, and exam-related scams online.

The decision follows concerns raised by law enforcement and education authorities over several Telegram channels allegedly circulating fabricated paper leak claims and misinformation targeting NEET aspirants. Investigators reportedly found that some groups were using edited messages and manipulated screenshots to create panic among students and parents.

Officials said the temporary restriction was imposed under provisions of the Information Technology Act to maintain the integrity of the examination process and stop fraudulent content from spreading rapidly during the crucial days leading up to the re-exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) welcomed the move, saying it was necessary to protect candidates from misinformation and ensure a fair and transparent examination environment. The agency has repeatedly warned students not to trust unofficial claims about leaked papers or answer keys circulating on social media platforms.

As part of the broader crackdown, the NTA has also launched a dedicated reporting portal where students and members of the public can flag suspicious messages, impersonation attempts, and claims of paper leaks. Authorities have urged candidates to rely only on official announcements from the NTA and government agencies.
Security arrangements for the June 21 examination have been tightened nationwide, with additional monitoring of online activity, stricter surveillance at exam centers, and coordination between cybercrime units and local police. The government has warned that individuals involved in spreading false information or attempting to disrupt the examination process could face legal action.

The original NEET UG 2026 examination had been cancelled following allegations of irregularities and paper leaks, leading to the announcement of a nationwide re-examination under enhanced security protocols.
