Pune, 4th May 2022: While the political atmosphere has heated up due to the agitation called by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), the light of political discussions has suddenly changed as the order regarding Pune Municipal Elections has come from the court. As the Election Commission has been ordered to declare the municipal elections dates within two weeks, the discussion of the municipal elections has started among all the political activists.
Due to the order issued by the state government to form a new ward, the pace of election preparations among the political parties had slowed down. But now, in the wake of this result, a discussion has started on when the election may be declared.
Former mayor Murlidhar Mohol said, “OBC’s reservation result was expected. However, the state government has failed to take sides in this regard, injustice is being done to the OBC community. But we are ready to fight after the election is declared. The citizens of Pune will show faith in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”
“Elections will have to be held due to the order of the Supreme Court. The Mahavikas Aghadi government will decide what exactly is stated in the order. Speaking of elections, Shiv Sena is already ready for elections. Organizational building has been going on for the last two years. The people are fed up with the planned and irresponsible management of the BJP. Shiv Sena will oust BJP in the upcoming elections,” said Shiv Sena leader Gajanan Tharkude.
“All parties had decided that other backward communities should get reservation. The MVA government will discuss the Supreme Court order. It will determine the direction. However, as it is clear that elections will be held, the Congress has started preparations. Electoral strategies will be discussed with state level leaders,” informed Congress city president Ramesh Bagwe.
NCP spokesperson Ankush Kakade stated that “The state government is bound to hold elections as per the decision of the Supreme Court. All parties had decided to give reservation to OBCs. The state government had also taken over the rights of ward formation. However, the court ruled it ineligible. With the possibility of elections in May, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had already started preparations for the elections. Although there has been some relaxation in the interim, the election process will now begin expeditiously. The citizens of Pune will support NCP in the elections.”
