Dr. Suhas Diwase Urges High Voter Turnout in Pune Lok Sabha Constituency

Pune, 10th May 2024: For the Lok Sabha general election, voting will take place on May 13 at 2,018 polling stations in the Pune Lok Sabha constituency, with various facilities arranged for voters. Dr. Suhas Diwase, the Pune District Collector and Election Returning Officer of the Pune Lok Sabha Constituency has appealed for a higher voter turnout on this day.

Within the Pune Lok Sabha Constituency, there will be voting at 453 polling stations in the Wadgaonsheri Vidhan Sabha Constituency, 280 in Shivajinagar, 397 in Kothrud, 344 in Parvati, 274 in Pune Cantonment, and 270 in Kasba Peth Vidhan Sabha Constituency, totaling 2,018 polling stations. The distribution of voter slips is underway door-to-door by polling center-level officials in Pune, Shirur, and Maval Lok Sabha constituencies, with 70% of the voter slip distribution already completed.

Among the facilities provided for the convenience of voters, the “Know Your Polling Station” service has been established in each ward office of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to help people find their names on the voter list and obtain information about their polling station. The district administration is implementing various activities to increase voter turnout in the district, especially in urban areas, and is also conducting public awareness campaigns in residential complexes.

A total of 11,176 officials and staff have been appointed across six Vidhan Sabha constituencies within the Pune Lok Sabha Constituency. This includes 2,245 presiding officers, 2,876 first-polling officers, and 6,055 other polling officers. Specifically, there are 2,111 officials for Wadgaon Sheri Vidhan Sabha Constituency, 2,850 for Shivajinagar, 1,674 for Kothrud, 978 for Parvati, 2,638 for Pune Cantonment, and 925 for Kasba Peth Vidhan Sabha Constituency. All officers and employees have undergone training in two phases regarding the election process, and polling teams will be dispatched to polling stations on 12th May with the necessary materials.

Following the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), minimum guaranteed facilities have been arranged at each polling station. These include ramps for disabled access, shaded areas to provide relief from the summer heat, waiting rooms, drinking water facilities, medical kits, and ORS packets. Additionally, transportation services will be provided for senior citizens to and from the polling stations. Dr. Diwase has urged all eligible voters to participate in the celebration of democracy by casting their votes.
