New Delhi, 3rd May 2025: In a strong diplomatic and economic response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Government of India has intensified its measures against Pakistan. Following the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the closure of the Attari border checkpost, India has now banned the entry of all Pakistani-flagged ships into its ports.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, no ship flying the Pakistani flag will be permitted to dock at any Indian port. Additionally, Indian-flagged vessels will not be allowed to dock at Pakistani ports. The ministry stated that the decision has been taken “in the interest of the safety of Indian assets, cargo and associated infrastructure,” and to support the broader objectives of Indian shipping. The order has come into force with immediate effect and will remain in place until further notice.

Complete Import Ban Enforced
In a parallel move, the Ministry of Commerce has also prohibited the import or transit of any goods originating in or exported from Pakistan. As per the official notification, “The direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall remain prohibited with immediate effect until further orders.”

This marks a significant escalation in trade restrictions, cutting off all formal commercial exchanges between the two nations.

Postal Services Suspended
Further tightening the measures, the Indian government has suspended all postal and parcel services to and from Pakistan. The Department of Posts announced that the exchange of all categories of mail and parcels—whether by land or air—has been halted. This suspension covers both personal and commercial postal traffic.

National Security Takes Precedence
These sweeping actions come in the wake of the deadly terrorist strike in Pahalgam, which Indian authorities have linked to elements operating from across the border. Official sources suggest that these decisions are part of a broader strategy to isolate Pakistan economically and diplomatically in response to repeated provocations.

While India has not commented on any potential military action, the series of rapid policy changes has heightened tensions in the region. Intelligence inputs indicate a growing concern in Pakistan over possible retaliatory steps by India.
