Mumbai, 3 April : The Governor of Maharashstra CH. Vidyasagar Rao today called upon business leaders to create a new model of growth for India that will be inclusive, sustainable and facilitate the participation of more women in workspaces and leadership positions.
Governor Vidyasagar Rao was speaking at the inauguration of ‘Xynteo Exchange’ in Mumbai on Tuesday (2 April).
Xynteo Exchange is a platform created by Hindalco, Hindustan Unilever, General Electric India, Tata Trusts, Cyient, Shell India, Technip FMC and State Bank of India to create a new model of growth for India by 2022.
Rajashree Birla, Chair of the India 2022 Advisory Board of Xynteo India, Sanjeev Mahta, CEO, Hindustan Unilever, Lorenzo Simonelli, Global CEO, Baker Hughes, a GE company and Oswald Bjelland, Chairman Xynteo, business leaders, start-up leaders and other business executives were present.
Governor Vidyasagar Rao said India is emerging as the youngest nation in the world by 2020 with an average age of 29 years. He said failure to educate, skill and re-skill youths will turn India’s demographic dividend into a demographic disaster.
Stating that water scarcity is assuming frightening proportions with many cities of the world running out of drinking water, the Governor asked businesses to become water-conscious and contribute to making villages and towns self-sufficient in terms of water.
Observing that women are missing in leadership positions in Corporates and high end jobs, the Governor called for creating a new model of growth that will facilitate the participation of more women in workspaces and in leadership positions.
The Xynteo India Coalition has selected Waste Management, Energy, Healthcare, Sustainable Mining as themes for action.
