Pune, February 10, 2021: The Social Welfare Department is planning to submit a proposal to the State government to withdraw the physical submission of applications for obtaining caste verification certificates and allow the issuance of the certificates online.

If this proposal is accepted, it will speed up the process of issuing caste verification certificates and be beneficial to lakhs of students across the city as well as from the rural area of the district.

The caste certificate is necessary to get benefits of various schemes, scholarships, academic admissions, etc. However, many times people defraud the authorities by submitting fake certificates. To avoid this, every individual must verify the caste certificate and submit a verification document to the concerned authority.

The verification is done by the Social Welfare Department and usually takes up to 90 to 150 days as it is quite a complicated process.

People usually submit an online application but forget to submit the application copy physically as they are not aware that it is mandatory to present the application copy before the Caste Verification Committee. Due to this, many cases are pending before the authorities.

It is also difficult for students living in rural areas to submit the copies at the district offices. Hence, the Social Welfare Department is planning to submit a proposal to the State Government to make the procedure entirely online.

“The online procedure will help us in speeding up the certificate issuance. It will also benefit people living in different parts of the district,” said Dhammadeep Gajbhiye, Director General, BARTI.
