Mangrove forest garden being created in 38 hectares area of Mumbai : Mungantiwar

Mumbai, 5/9/2019: Two mangrove forest gardens are being created in 38 hectares of land in Mumbai.  Out of these two mangrove forest gardens, one garden is being created at Gorai in the area of eight hectares, costing Rs. 26.97 crore. The second garden is being created in ate area of 30 hectares in Dahisar costing Rs. 48.80 crore, informed Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.

Gorai Mangrove Forest

Nature experience centre, mangrove trail, bird-watching tower, boat tourism by locals, etc. works are proposed in the Gorai mangrove forest. This project is proposed to open for tourists by Diwali 2021 and plans are made according to it. District Planning Committee has provided funds for the project.

Dahisar mangrove forest

Dahisar mangrove forest garden project is in the process of getting administrative approval.  This mangrove forest has a vast bio-diversity and 11 species can be found here. Hence, this area will prove important for tourists and scholars from the perspective of entertainment and research. Employment opportunities will be made available for the locals here. Nature experience centre, mangrove trail, bio-diverse illusion museum, local boat tourism, etc. initiatives will be implemented in this forest garden. This project is being implemented under State scheme and is planned to be opened for tourists by October 2022.

Mangrove forest in 30 thousand hectares area

Mangrove forests exist in 30 thousand hectares area in the state. 17 thousand hectares area is government-owned and mangrove forests in 13 thousand hectares area are situated on private land.
