Mumbai, 2nd September 2025: The Maharashtra government on Tuesday officially issued a Government Resolution (GR) implementing the Hyderabad and Satara Gazette provisions for Maratha reservation, bringing a triumphant close to activist Manoj Jarange’s indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan. The official GR is expected to be handed over shortly.

Following the assurance, activist Manoj Jarange announced that he would end his fast and leave Mumbai by 9 pm tonight, marking the culmination of the latest phase of the Maratha reservation agitation.

A delegation of the Maratha Reservation Sub-Committee, led by Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, met Jarange at Azad Maidan on Tuesday and formally conveyed the government’s proposal. Jarange responded positively, declaring that once the GR is issued, the protestors would celebrate with a symbolic shower of gulal before dispersing peacefully.

“As soon as the GR is released, we will leave Mumbai joyfully, showering gulal. By 9 pm tonight, the city will be free of protestors. We will dance our way out of Mumbai,” Jarange told Minister Vikhe Patil during their discussion.

In a significant relief for demonstrators, Minister Vikhe Patil directed police authorities not to take any punitive action against protestors’ vehicles, which had earlier been moved from Azad Maidan to Vashi Market in compliance with Bombay High Court orders.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to expedite the issuance of the Hyderabad Gazette GR. Officials confirmed that Jarange would be handed the official document shortly.

What’s Next?
The demand: Immediate implementation of Maratha reservation through Hyderabad & Satara Gazettes.
The decision: Govt will issue a GR formalizing this.
