Mumbai, 3rd May 2022: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray, who has given an ultimatum to the Maharashtra government to remove loudspeakers from mosques, can be arrested anytime. On 6 April, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Raj Thackeray by the Magistrate Court of Shirala.

The Magistrate Court at Sangli’s Shirala had on April 6 issued a non-bailable warrant under sections 143, 109, 117, 7 of the IPC and 135 of the Bombay Police Act in connection with a 2008 case against MNS chief Raj Thackeray.

The court had ordered the arrest of MNS chief Raj Thackeray under a non-bailable warrant from the Mumbai Police Commissioner. However, despite this, the Mumbai Police is yet to execute the arrest.

The Mumbai Police did not take any action in the matter. Raj Thackeray has been issued a non-bailable warrant in an old case. The court also asked the police why no action was taken against Raj even after the warrant was issued on April 6.

According to media reports, in 2008, MNS workers pelted stones at State Transport Corporation (STC) buses in Parli in support of Thackeray. In fact, Raj Thackeray was arrested in the year 2008 on the recruitment of provincial youth in the Railways. In protest against this arrest, MNS workers had protested at many places in the state. The ST bus was also targeted in Ambajogai.

Raj Thackeray was often asked to appear by the court after the case was registered in this regard. However, Raj Thackeray did not attend any of the hearings. Non-bailable warrant was issued for non-appearance on consecutive dates despite bail.
